My African Violets are dear to me They surround me with serenity Until I see some thrips on one Then, pretty blossoms -- off you come!
And if their centers get too tight I'm sure they have the cyclamen mite! And what's that white thing in the pot? A mealy bug --- I sure hope not!
But when my AV's behave themselves And blossom merrily on my shelves Then peacefulness returns to me But wait --- is that a bug I see?
AV Addiction
African Violets are addicting you know -- There are so many beauties you just "have" to grow And caring for them can become quite a task "Then why have so many" you may want to ask?
Well, these little sirens possess a great power It's hard to resist when you see a new flower They will help clean the air, and they won't make you fat My kind of addiction -- how healthy is that! They cover my tables and a part of the floor But I still have a pathway to get out the door And they're helping to increase my agility As I dance around trays -- No, you don't want to see!
When your child has left you with an "empty nest" Your violets are there to make sure you don't rest They demand food and water so relentlessly There's no time to miss children -- so it seems to me!
And I'm doing so much more for re-cycling -- As I propagate leaves in almost anything So now that I've listed all the good these plants do I've defined "AV Obsessive Disorder" for you! Violet Obsession African Violets can be blue And many other colors too. I bought a violet -- then I got two So my collection grew and grew. These dear little violets are on the increase, The desire for more just does not cease ! So I decide enough for now, There is no room -- no way -- no how ! But now my eyes are all agog, Oh no -- a new Spring Catalogue! Violet Therapy
Dear African Violet, how cheerful you are Of all lovely plants, you're my fav'rite by far
When life's daily struggles are making me blue I forget in an instant with one look at you !
Where did you get this remarkable charm To chase away clouds and completely disarm?
And all you need do -- to dispel any gloom Is to bring me delight when you burst into bloom! |
