| Meet Cindy in Colorado Cindy and Family Rediscovering Violets: My name is Cindy and I live in beautiful (but cold) Colorado. I have loved African Violets since I was a child living with my grandparents and helping my grandma with her violets. For the past 9 years I have been violet-less due to living in a home that has terrible windows for violets. In October of 2004, the two violets I have at my desk started blooming again and my students (I work in a school) went nuts over them. I took a harder look at my two name-less babies and realized "I sure do miss my violets". I now have a table set up in my basement with 4' lights and my husband is planning the shelves he has promised me. I am so hungry for Named babies I took the risk and ordered violets off e-bay and that is how I got frozen babies. I have learned my lesson and will wait until spring. My cold babies have been re-potted, stripped of the worst leaves, and are resting comfortably in their "baggies"! A No Id favorite Violets at School: I got together with 2 of the science teachers and we re-potted the 2 violets I have at school, one having a full grown sucker. The sucker and a number of the leaves I stripped off are now a "Science Project" for her students. I work in the dean's office and a number of my frequent visitors are now interested in AV's. I promised them each a plant at the end of the school year if they will do some research and write me up a small report on how they will take care of their new baby. Having made that promise, I ran to Wal-Mart and purchased 3 sad violets and took them home, stripped off most of their leaves, repotted the crowns into 2" pots and put them into baggies. The leaves are all in a covered pie carrier from the lemon pie my husband had to have, these will be the plants I give to the kids. My students are 6th graders so I'll have 2 more years with the same kids. Those that are still interested in the AV's after the summer will get leaves to start their own babies. This will be a fun project for me! More No ID's Cindy has been with the Violet Voice since November 29, 2004 and she is the winner of our Story/Poem contest with her entry of "Grandma's Legacy" which proved to be the sentimental favorite with our members. | Cindy's Named AV's Rainbow's Quiet Riot Ness' Peppermint Stick | | Grandma's Legacy
I close my eyes and remember still, The lovely violets on her windowsill Grandma had a knack you see, To grow a violet all would envy
A little girl, I would watch in awe As she groomed her plants without a flaw She would turn to me, a smile on her face I’d run to her side for that was my place
Pinch that flower, pluck that leaf Don’t worry, dear, they feel no grief The flowers shine so full of love A gift from God in the heavens above
With a sigh, I open my eyes What is before me is no surprise Violets on my windowsill My grandmother is with me still
