At the beginining of April 2006, Plagio UK instigated and ran the first Plagiocephaly Awareness Week. Its aims were: - to raise awareness of positional plagiocephaly;
- to highlight the lack of support and funding for the condition; and
- to increase awareness of the prevention of plagiocephaly.
With the backing and support of all three of the private helmet suppliers, some plans were put in place to make the week successful in achieving its aims:
- On Monday, 3rd April the petition was delivered to 10 Downing Street, with a press photographer in attendance. Claire Kerr was interviewed live just after this on Channel 5 News, from 11.30 am.
- Claire was also interviewed at 9.15 am on LBC News radio
- Member Juicy_luce was interviewed on BBC Radio Berkshire in the afternoon of 3rd April
- A PR agency worked to gain press, radio and TV interviews during the week. Members also contacted press themselves - see below for the coverage achieved.
- A campaign poster was designed and printed and members displayed them across the country in GP surgeries, health visitor centres and elsewhere.
- Local meet ups took place in Bagshot, Surrey (5th), Nottingham (8th), Edinburgh (7th) and Leeds (22nd).
- A national meet up was held on Sunday, 9th April, in Kettering, Northamptonshire. There was a raffle, children's activities, a buffet and a balloon release.
