We are lucky the day is not too hot, 85 degree, yesterday when we started this project it was 92. This is not my favorite way to spend a Sunday... building a walkway, or maybe the correct phrasing would be, being the head assistant to the main builder and architect, Aron, my hubby of 40 years. I am doing some general yard work, so I can be close by to hand the level, get the flat hoe, bring tea, Both Aron and I are getting long in the tooth, enough so that it takes both of us to make a whole person. I know why my violets are such a big draw for me; I find myself doing indoor gardening more. The outdoor yard work forces me to write physical checks my body is not able to cash any more. As I raked I kept thinking of the Guy Clark song Ramblin' Jack and Mahan, there is a verse that goes,
To which Larry Mahan replied:
He said, "The sweet bird of youth
Was sittin' on my shoulder yesterday
But she's always changin' partners
And I always knew she'd up and fly away
A bit sad, but I think my sweet bird has taken flight also.... this awful arthritis has caused one door to close, but a wonderful window opened with my violets. I guess the trick to living a successful life is not getting discouraged by the road blocks that are sometimes thrown into our way. Grace is seeing the other opportunities ahead, all you have to do is be looking for it.
