 Rules
*** Items to 'find' will be added to this list, beginning Wednesday, September 10th.   Randomly, several extra credit items will be added.
*** Items will generally be in the form of a question.  Answers will be 'found' somewhere online.  Some questions will include hints;  others will require some detective work!
*** You will have approx. 10 days after the last item has been listed here to find as many of them as you are able. 
*** Type them in a list in an email and send to thevioletvoice@yahoo.com by the deadline of midnight, Wednesday, January 7, 2009.
*** Prizes will be awarded and announced a few days after that date.
Items to find:
  • 9/11 Item #1 -- The London African Violet Society advises us to DO WHAT, if growing African violets on a cold windowsill?

  • 9/26 Item #2 --  The Old Dominion African Violet Society say that pollen spill is a sign of what pest?

  • 12/1 Item #3 -- One of the most important ways to identify a specific AV cultivar/hybrid is to use blossom shape.  Can Can Trail (Harris) is a fully double flower of what shape? (hint:  check out our NEWBIE'S NOOK for help!)

  • 12/1 Item #4 -- Nancy' Show Journal is a peek over her shoulder as she tends her violets, grooms them for show, reports on show days, and lists her opinions on how her plants performed.  In a July 2008 post, Nancy explains her club will have a 'big splash of a show' for next year.  She is planning to have many plants to enter in which new class in that show? (hint:  the answer is on the 'last page' --link in the first entry-- but the entire journal is a good read!)

  • 12/1 Item #8 -- (extra credit)  AVSA recommends dividing a clump of plantlets around a rooted leaf when the baby leaves are approx. what size?

  • 12/29 Item #9 -- (extra credit) Rob and Oliva have a great Library section on their Violet Barn website. Their Streptocarpus article contains the answer to this question:  African violets typically produce only one bloom stalk per leaf axil.  Is this also true of streps?
