"Adopt an Oldie"

For HOW TO GET STARTED,
please read the Vintage Project page!

So you have read all the info, how do you participate?

  • First, if you have any questions about older hybridizers, varieites, etc., ask them!  This can be a very educational project for us as individuals, besides the goal of saving soon-to-be-forgotten varieties.
  • Secondly,  let us know what you are doing!  Again, post some 'talk' on the ProjectMessages messageboard.
Also, view and add to the Vintage Lists:
    • Oldies Wanted-- is a list of varieties someone is searching for.  If you have an old variety you are looking for, please add it to the list!
(The TradesWantedFAVS message board is the place for any other wish lists of AVs you may be looking for.)
    • Oldies Found-- this is a bit like an 'official sign-up' sheet.  Once you have found a vintage variety that you have acquired as a plant or leaf, post the name here.  In this way,  we will see which members are participating and in general which varieites we are saving.
**This would be a great place to add the vendor or source where the variety was found!**
    • Oldies Adopted-- After your newly acquired leaves or plants have been propagated, have bloomed true to description, and are established in your collection, contact Fred or Janis (at our group email addy (thevioletvoice@yahoo.com) or post a message on our boards) to have the variety name as well as yours added to this adoption list.
      • Let's try to get 50 African violets on this list in 2009!
  • Last, but not least, have some fun and learn a little.

For those who wish to be included as a possible resource of vintage varieties currently in their collection, but would prefer not to be on a public list, contact us~
HOW TO USE THE LISTS:
  1. This is what you will see when you first click on the Project Lists. These lists may be seen two ways: LIST or DETAILS...
This shows the LIST view... and will be sorted by variety name. But each member may 'sort' the list any way they like....by clicking on each heading, (such as Variety, Hybridizer, Date, or Member) (See GREEN instructions). To view DETAILS of each entry, click on the little magnifying glass to the left of each entry(See RED instructions.).
  2. After clicking on on the magnifying glass you are taken to the DETAILS view of the entry.... If you wish to return to the LIST view cick on List View (See RED instructions).
  3. After you clicked 'Add AVName', this page will show up... and it gives you spaces to add variety, hybridizer, date, plus any comments you may wish to add. Your name and date will be added automatically. This is easy! Just don't forget to click the ADD button at the bottom.

Please note:

We appreciate the time and effort of each grower maintaining the vintage varieties and understand that due to demands or plant condition, leaves may not always be available.  The Violet Voice also appreciates your cooperation in not asking that growers give leaves for free, however arrangements are up to the individual grower.  Up to $3 a leaf PLUS all shipping costs might be considered reasonable.  While this is a higher cost than found for readily available leaves, the added cost will help ensure only serious requests are made, while further maintaining the variety.
The responsibility of maintaining correct and healthy plant material resides solely with each individual, and "The Violet Voice" has no control over the way each variety is handled by participants of this project.
