It's a Stevens splash!
By Siobhán Holliman - Tuam Herald

HAPPY, hum-along songs with clear melodies, distinctive and skilful musicians and backing vocals united with the matchless sound of Padraig Stevens, sums up his recently released album Puddles and Rainbows.
The 12-track CD ....has received a hugely positive reaction.

Although street singers and Saw Doctors fans will know the words of The Streets of Galway off by heart, this is the first time that the classic city anthem has actually been recorded. It gives the album a mighty 'puckout' to bring the listener through a journey of what are like modern traditional ballads, telling stories of people and places, emotions and inspirations.

To say that the album took a while to get finished is not an understatement, it's a complete lie. It took ages, three years in fact and throughout that time Padraig's friends, musical influences and former band members dropped by and sang and played music with him and for him.

Puddles and Rainbows features the familiar sounds of Máirtín O'Connor, Anthony Thistlethwaite, Leo Moran, Dave Carton, Breda Smyth and Jim Higgins.

The songs have a comfortable, familiar feel to them and range from the gentleness of Bring it all your Love to the bustling beats of The Galway Races. The miscellany of sounds throughout the album come from an enjoyable mix of acoustic and electric guitar, double bass, accordion, whistle, bodhrán, harp, keyboards, bouzouki, fiddle and of course every child's first instrument, the triangle.
Padraig is already well known in the folk song domain and of course as a past and founding member of the Saw Doctors. He is a modern-day wandering song-writer who makes his music from his everyday experiences of life.

There's no need for gloss paint on this material, the colourful collection shines fine on its own.
