How to add Siggies
and links, etc.  to messages:
No, MSN does not have an easy way for group members to set up a siggie (graphic, image, or photo) or other things such as links to photo albums or webpages, to  automatically appear at the end of each post!

Remember, you cannot attach photos, or siggies when replying from within your email program, such as Eudora, Outlook Express, Hotmail or Yahoo.
However, if you have a special signature line added to your email program, consisting of a link to your web pages, or a special quote, those will appear with your message.

To add siggies, or special stationary, to your Violet Voice Group posts, you will need to set up a 'template'... and copy and paste it into each message.

Creating a siggie or stationary template:
  • 1) Make sure the siggie gif or animation is uploaded to a photo album  on  a MSN group. OR, you may have the photo or image in a photo album off-MSN that allows linking into messageboards.

2) Open a reply window , on any MSN group messageboard. Using the yellow 'Tool Bar" at the top of the window, format your font, size color, etc.  for the words you will type in your messages.

  • 3) If you want to get 'fancy', with stationary, you may use the Table icon and create a table, with special bordor and body colors.  It is nice to make sure the table is centered in the window.

4) If you want to add a link, you may simply type it in, if you are careful to include the http:// and remember to hit the space bar after the web address... this will make a workable link.

  • 5) If you want to add a photo or siggie image, use the 'Insert Photo' icon, to add a photo from a MSN photo album.  OR, you may add a photo from outside MSN by  checking the little box just below the left corner of the compose window, 'Use HTML to create your page' .  See How to Insert Photos for more details and screenshots.

6) When everything looks like you want, select or check the 'Use HTML to create your page' found just below the left corner of the compose window.  This will give you the html code to your siggie/stationary.  Select all the code, Ctrl and A keys, then copy by pressing Ctrl and C keyks.  Open NOTEPAD, or some other text editor and paste, Ctrl and P keys.  Don't forget to save as... something like VV stationary... and save it someplace convienient, like your desktop. Remember to save as plain text.

**Please see HELP SCREENSHOTS for info on the 'Use HTML' box, or for inserting photos and links.**

  • 7)  When you want to add your siggie, you will need to open your VV stationary notepad file, copy all, and then paste all into a Violet Voice compose/reply window.
You must paste the code into the HTML view.. so select the 'Use HTML' box before pasting the stationary code.  To keep everything correctly formatted,  make sure the 'Use HTML' window is empty before pasting your stationary code.... sometimes there are stray tags there before you have even begun typing.  So backspace over everything before pasting.
8) Un - check the 'Use HTML' box, to begin typing your reply.

If you know how to write html code, you may degisn the template without going through all the steps above, but remember MSN groups do not allow things like javascript and certain html tags are not used.  Be aware MSN will remove all formatting it does not recognize... so test - drive the template.
