| HOW TO INSERT PHOTOS into messages: Here is an easy way, to try first: (that works most of the time!) 1) Open another Internet window; go to your photo album (can be either an MSN VV phtoo album OR another online photo album) and open the photo you want. Right-click on the photo and select 'Copy'.... 2) Then come to The Violet Voice, and open a compose message window... Type your message and wherever you want the photo, Right-click and select 'Paste'. Your photo should appear in a moment or two. (Remember, this works only if the web site where you have your photo allows you to insert your photos into forum posts, etc.) example: Also, this works only if you are actually on the MSN VioletVoice website when you click 'Reply' or 'New Discussion'. If you are replying to a VV message that came to your email inbox, or are sending a basic email to thevioletvoice@groups.msn.com from your email, you will have to use one of the other methods described below. | To insert a photo from your VioletVoice or any MSN photo album into your message: NOTE: Once you have uploaded a photo to an MSN photo album, you may use it in messages as many times as you like. You may also add a photo from your computer, in two ways: 1 -- within the message or 2 -- as an attachment. The difference between the two is: 'inserted' photos will appear within the message as a photo, and attachments will appear as a link just below your words. Option #1) To insert a photo, use the yellow 'Insert Picture' icon in the reply window, and select the 'from computer' option. Again, remember to hit the 'Add Photo' button, after you have selected the desired photo on your computer. Option #2) To attach a file, click the link that appears with a paperclip near the very top of the reply window. This will allow you to Browse Your Computer, to find the file you wish to attach. Be sure to click 'Attach this file', when you have selected the photo you want. NOTE: MSN counts these attachements toward your storage amount. Don't forget any photos you may have added to messages, if you find yourself nearly out of space for photos and wish to delete unwanted images. You may also add a photo from other photo hosting sites. Make sure the photo hosting site allows linking! Sites such as PictureTrail, Onfinite, Ripway, Village Photo, PhotoBucket, ImageShack, FreePhotoHost, are a few examples. (Please read the terms to determine if linking to our messageboards is possible with free accounts... most of the above allow linking.) 'Paid' web space also works for linking. And most Internet Service Providers (ISP) usually give you a little bit of web space with your internet connection account. Step #1) Begin with the URL address of your photo! Your photo host may give you the link code or find the URL address of your photo, such as http://home.ripway.com/2004-3/84903/avFLOWER.gif by right-clicking on the photo; select 'properties'. 'Copy' the entire URL, usually beginning with http://www.something and ending with the image file name: something.jpg or something.gif. Step #2) Type your message in the reply window; then hit return to begin on a new line. Check the 'Use HTML to create your page' check box, found just below the bottom left corner of the compose box. This will show you the HTML code of your message. Step #4) Make sure you hit return to begin on a new line. Type < IMG src = "?" > and 'Paste' or type the URL address of your photo in the place of the ?. Be sure to include the following, as all are required to make the photo appear: -
Both the < at the beginning and the > at the end. -
The " in front of the URL address and the " behind the address. -
No spaces, except between 'IMG' and 'src'. -
I cannot type it exactly here, or the page reads it as a photo! Step #5) Uncheck the 'Use HTML to create your page', and your message will reappear in the window as it will appear when posted.... It may refresh the entire window, so don't panic! And your photo should appear, if all was typed correctly! This way, you will know it works before you hit the 'Send' button! |
